Surveying
To understand the size of the issue, surveying helps to determine the abundance of pests and can be conducted by ground counts, aerial counts or both. To cover large areas of the landscape we use a range of ground vehicles and also drones. Our Chief Pilot oversees the safe deployment of drones in accordance with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) regulations and our internal procedures.
Ravade will undertake surveying activities to either develop a Pest Management Plan or to inform the progress of any existing data or history held. Services may be provided as part of an emergency response to an incursion or as part of routine surveillance. It must be conducted to comply with the organisation’s or landowners pest management plan, survey strategy and monitoring program and in accordance with established standards and protocols.
Understanding the impact on the environment will inform what is the best approach for controlling a pest problem.
Integrated pest management plan for animal control
Ravade can develop and implement an Integrated Pest Management Plan and the objectives of the plan will inform the approach taken. A Pest Management Plan can be complex and involve many stakeholders or be simple and very straight forward. This is all dependent on the clients needs and critical it is developed with the landowners.
Control techniques may involve the use of one or more of the following: vertebrate pesticides, traps, cages, lures and firearms where the animal is humanely destroyed in accordance with industry guidelines or protocols. Weed spraying is undertaken in accordance with the appropriate legislation and industry standards and guidelines.

Trapping
Animals that may require trapping may be native animals, domestic animals, animals determined to be pests or feral animals. Recently it was determined that there are over 80 introduced pests in Australia and the best way to control these invasive animals may include trapping.
Preparing to safely trap animals takes a high level of planning and series of activities aimed to achieving a successful outcome. Trapping methods still require a consideration to animal welfare whilst also achieving the aim of removing them from the environment.
Traps need to be inspected regularly while they are set, however while this method is more time consuming if the principals of trapping are followed, they can be a more effective method of animal control.
